What it includes
Flat-knit compression garments are firmer than circular-knit stockings, hold their shape on uneven contours and do not cut into folds. They reduce swelling, pain and heaviness and protect the tissue from bruising.
Manual lymphatic drainage is a gentle hand technique that stimulates lymph flow. It is most useful when swelling is present and after surgery.
Exercise with low joint load — swimming, aqua aerobics, walking, cycling. Water also acts as natural compression.
Weight management matters because excess weight increases the load on the legs and lymphatic system, even though there is no specific “lipedema diet”.
Conservative therapy at our clinic
You can have conservative lipedema treatment with us. At the consultation with ultrasound, the doctor determines the stage, draws up a treatment plan and checks how your symptoms change at follow-up visits. If surgery is needed later, the same team looks after you from preparation to recovery.
When it is not enough
If pain, bruising and limited mobility persist despite compression, exercise and weight management, the surgeon may suggest lymph-sparing liposuction. Conservative therapy continues before and after surgery.
